    Description

Vintage Poole Pottery April Tony Morris Designed Medieval Calendar Plate
    T
his beautiful plate is made by Poole Pottery and designed by Tony Morris in 1973.
This plate is number of a 1000 that were made. Each plate is individually made by hand in clay and sprayed with a red coat of clay on the face to enrich the final surface. The first firing fuses the clays together and the hard 'biscuit' plate is decorated by specially trained artists who sign their work on the reverse. The stained glass window effect is produced by applying the black outline with a resist medium and the glaze is floated on by brush. Mottled colors are obtained by painting glaze over glaze. A final gloss firing results in the finished piece, a work of old beauty for a modern technical age.
This plate depicts April-carrying a flowering branch.
