Here is a gorgeous mortality plate of fossil sea urchins, from the Goodland Formation of Tarrant County, Texas.  From the Cretaceous, the last great age of theDinosaurs.
There are 5 fossil sea urchins, species Hemiaster Texanus, and one unidentified bivalve. The piece is about 5.6" by 3.6", and it weighs 1 lb. 2.35 oz. There is a repaired crack near one side (see photo of back side). Four of the 5 urchins have never been removed, one was removed and cleaned and replaced on the matrix. The bivalve is original to the plate as well.  The largest urchin measures about 1.28".
Sea urchins still live today, much as they did back when these were around. They have the 5-point design, with lots of spines protruding, as they crawl along the sea bottom with many little feet.
This is a great mortality plate for those collecting marine fossils.
