Abstract:
The purpose of this 2020 Addendum to the book
Fossil Echinoids of Texas - A Monograph of
Fossil Sea Urchins
that was published in November 2016 is to keep current the catalogue of all the currently known fossil echinoids from Texas, which now numbers 273 species.
In this addendum, 34 new species are recognized from Texas.
The Texas echinoids recognized and
named herein are Allomma lindarae sp. nov., Coenholectypus oliveri sp. nov., Coenholectypus wenoensis sp. nov., Cosmocyphus
krameri
sp. nov., Cosmocyphus
leanderensis sp. nov., Cottaldia ellotti sp. nov., Diplopodia coryellensis sp. nov., Echinocyphus bordenensis sp. nov., Globator cranei sp. nov., Goniophorus graysonensis sp. nov., Goniophorus mainstreetensis sp. nov., Goniophorus riovistaensis sp. nov., Goniopygus bexarensis sp. nov., Heteraster brewsterensis sp. nov., Holaster morgani sp. nov., Leptosalenia maryae sp. nov., Leptosalenia nolanvillensis sp. nov., Leptosalenia reidi sp. nov., Leptosalenia salasae sp. nov., Miocyphosoma bexarensis sp. nov., Miocyphosoma occultatum sp. nov., Miotoxaster wenoensis sp. nov., Palhemiaster cranei sp. nov., Pliotoxaster donaldtrumpi sp. nov., Salenia comalensis sp. nov.,
Salenia granula sp. nov., Salenia patricia
sp. nov., Salenia scarleta sp. nov., Sinaecidaris roei sp. nov., Stomechinus jordani sp. nov., Temnocidaris (Stereocidaris) reidi sp. nov., Tiaromma magilla sp. nov., and Tiaromma goodlandensis sp. nov.
Three new unnamed species that are currently in manuscript, Pygaster sp. and Heterosalenia sp. Type 1 and Heterosalenia sp. Type 2 are also described.
Two previously listed Texas echinoids are being removed from the list of Texas echinoids because the specimen Clypeaster sp., Plate 18 was actually from Houston County, Georgia and not from Houston, Texas and Craneipedina williamsonensis, Plate 39 was miscataloged and was from Europe.
Tetragramma adami, Thompson 2016 is placed in another genus and renamed as Strictotiara adami (Thompson 2016).
Pseudocidaris ridiculum, Thompson 2016 is placed in another Genus and renamed as Heterosalenia ridiculum (Thompson 2016).
In my study of echinoids, I met Trevor Clarke, a passionate young man of Virginia, that had found some echinoids in Virginia.
One of the echinoids he found is also recognized in this book and named Habrocidaris clarki sp. nov.
