Here is an attractive fossil brittle star, Ophiura, from the Ordovician, 485 to 443 million years ago.  Found in the Kataoua Formation by Kaid Rami, Morocco.
The brittle star is about 1.1 inches across. The plate is about 4.2" by 2.6", and it weighs 6.7 oz.
Brittle stars differ from starfish in  a number of ways. The arms on a brittle star are distinctly separated from each other, and break (and then regenerate) quite quickly. Starfish have both a mouth and an anus, brittle stars only have a mouth which performs double-duty.
